You might hear the dated term ”wet brain” used in reference to Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome. However, the term ”wet brain” carries and perpetuates stigma by inaccurately conveying that people willfully contract it. The truth is two people can have similar drinking patterns and one will develop Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome and the other won’t. It’s a complex condition with many factors and, like alcohol use disorder, no one chooses it. As such, we recommend that the term ”wet brain” be avoided in favor of the more accurate ”Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome.” Korsakoff syndrome should not be confused with Alzheimer’s disease.
Scientists constructed a model of the human brain on psilocybin, illuminating how magic mushrooms allow our brain to access untapped potential. This model shows that, under the influence of psilocybin, the brain creates a feedback loop of neuron activity and neurotransmitter release (the chemical messengers that neurons use to communicate). Though he was bullied for being autistic, Musk suggests his experience with Asperberg’s syndrome was ended up aiding his future success. His intense and specialized interest in science and technology was amplified by his hyper-focused mind, a common trait among autistic people. “And so that gives you an example of what might be possible in terms of novel, psychedelic-derived compounds and their therapeutic potential,” Peters said.
And they came up with a solution that was more practical than I was thinking. I was hoping to get [a] full-bandwidth, high rate of information. I’m really happy to see that there will be (likely, we’ll see what happens with this particular version) a commercial product that will someday reach people and help them. On April 14, Musk sat down for an hour-long TED Talk interview, which was facilitated by the head of TED Chris Anderson.
Engaging in brain exercises, such as completing a sudoku puzzle, enhances cognitive abilities, boosts memory, and promotes overall mental well-being. During your average day in the human brain, neurons are constantly firing and neurotransmitters are traveling well-trodden paths through the brain, somewhat brain mush like cars on a freeway. On magic mushrooms, those networks are ”destabilized”, Kringlebach explains. ”Using this model will be crucial for truly understanding how psilocybin can rebalance neuropsychiatric disorders such as treatment-resistant depression and addiction,” Kringlebach tells Inverse.
For heavy drinkers, these seemingly innocent memory lapses can evolve to slurred speech, an unsteady walk, violent muscle twitches or hallucinations, signaling alcohol-induced brain damage. If left untreated, the damage can progress to Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome, a potentially life-threatening condition. Although Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome has a low prevalence of between 0.4 percent and nearly 3 percent, doctors believe this disease is frequently misdiagnosed or underreported. Studies have found that about four out of every 100 cases of Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome were missed because the brain was not microscopically examined during an autopsy.
